About me

Few words about me...

After I finished my high school in Radom (which is a relatively small city in Masovian Voivodship) I decided that I want to continue my education in Wrocław, studying Applied Mathematics at the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology (Wydział Podstawowych Problemów Techniki in Polish). I need to admit that this decision was not made because of my unconditional love of mathematics but more as a result of a cold calculation considering both my interests and future work prospects. Nevertheless, today I think of this decision as of one of the best ones I have ever made. These studies not only taught me a lot, but also shaped me as a person, in some sense, and let me meet people that I would like to keep close to myself long after I leave the University.

I defended my Bachelor Thesis (actually called an Engineering Thesis, translating directly from Polish) on 23rd January 2017. It was related to the concept of tessellation and its applications to the image synthesis problem. My supervisor was dr inż. Andrzej Giniewicz. Afterwards, I started the second degree, also in the field of Applied Mathematics, however these studies were now conducted at the Faculty of Pure and Applied Mathematics which had been created during my undergraduate degree. Thanks to this, I took the opportunity to join the newly-created Students’ Government (Samorząd Studencki in Polish) and I was a member of this organization up until I finished my Master’s degree.

Moreover, I was the President of the Financial Engineering Students’ Association (Koło Naukowe Inżynierii Finansowej in Polish, abbreviated to KNIF). During my time in the driver’s seat of KNIF I was trying to make it a meeting place mainly for people who consider their mathematical studies as a starting point for their future career in finance. My Master’s studies were concluded in the thesis defense which took place on the 2nd July 2018. The subject was Monte Carlo simulations in investment portfolio dynamics and my supervisor was dr hab. Janusz Szwabiński. Since the subject of my Master thesis turned out to be particularly interesting for me – I decided to stay in the walls of the University for a bit longer and start my PhD studies.

One could describe my scientific interests as applying computer-science-related methods to the implementation of mathematical models and studying properties of these models based on the developed implementation. This wide formulation actually embraces everything which ties mathematics together with programming. I am particularly interested in applications which are related to the financial engineering. Among my personal interests I could name digital photography (I am a complete amateur though), theater, technological news and many, many others. Actually – it is fair to say that there is less things which I am not interested in than the ones which I am.

And – finally – I think it is clearly visible that I am a bit of a scribbler – I often write much more than anyone is willing to read. Therefore – thank you very much and congratulations for reading all these few words till the very end. :)
